Inverter efficiency · 85%

An estimate: 85% of the station capacity (inverter efficiency) divided by the total power of the appliances; charge is shown after a 4-hour blackout. Real figures depend on how the appliances are used.

EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3 is a 4096 Wh, 4000 W power station for a private house where during an outage not only lights and a router must work, but also a pump, washing machine, boiler or air conditioner. If you are planning to buy an EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3 as the basis of backup power, here is the main point: the capacity grows to 12 kWh, and from the mains the station reaches 80% in about an hour.

Outages have become part of everyday life, and for a house the question is no longer whether a router will last until morning. What matters more is how much equipment can be left switched on and whether you will have to switch appliances on one at a time. DELTA Pro 3 answers both: one station is enough for a night outage, with extra batteries for a day or longer, and there is enough power for heavy appliances.

This is not a hiking station: it weighs 51.5 kg and moves on wheels. Its place is a hallway, utility room or garage, from where it powers the house through outlets or through a backup transfer switch in the electrical panel.

Why DELTA Pro 3

4000 W rated, 8000 W starting peak

The rated 4000 W is enough for a boiler and fridge, or a washing machine and kettle, to work at the same time. To start motors the station delivers up to 8000 W for 400 ms. X-Boost mode powers heating appliances up to 6000 W at reduced voltage: according to EcoFlow’s manual, it is intended specifically for heaters, water heaters and heat pumps, and appliances with protection against voltage sag may switch off in it.

From 4 to 12 kWh

Two extra batteries connect to the station. The branded DELTA Pro 3 Smart Extra Battery has the same 4096 Wh and weighs 33 kg, so with two modules the system comes to about 12 kWh. Batteries from the previous DELTA Pro also fit if you already have them: EcoFlow only warns about an uneven charge level between modules of different capacity.

An hour to 80% and up to 7000 W in total

From a household socket DELTA Pro 3 draws up to 2900 W and with X-Stream technology charges to 80% in about an hour. If an extra battery is connected to the station and charging comes from several sources at once, the total input power reaches 7000 W. For short windows between outages this is the deciding difference.

30 dB at a 2 kW load

The manufacturer states 30 dB at a distance of a metre at a load of up to 2000 W, which is quieter than a running fridge. The previous DELTA Pro under the same conditions gave 45 dB. So the station can be kept in a living room rather than moved to the garage because of fan noise.

Switching to battery in 10 ms

Connected to the mains, the station works as a UPS: as soon as the power disappears, the equipment switches to the battery in 10 ms. EcoFlow recommends this mode for network storage, servers and home electronics. There is one condition: the mains must provide more energy than the devices consume so that the station has something to maintain its own charge with.

LFP battery rated for 4000 cycles

Automotive-grade LiFePO4 cells keep over 80% of capacity after 4000 cycles, which EcoFlow estimates as daily use for about 11 years. The battery pack is sealed to IP65 and built into the chassis using Cell-to-Chassis technology. The case has UL 5VA flame resistance, and the X-Guard system monitors 40 safety indicators around the clock.

What DELTA Pro 3 will run in a private house

The usable reserve at the 230 V outlets is about 3.5 kWh with one station, roughly 7 kWh with one extra battery and about 10.4 kWh with two. This is about 85% of the rated capacity, and the rest is taken by conversion in the inverter. The hours given are a calculation on paper: in practice the result is shifted by the specific equipment models, cold in the room and compressor cycles.

A night outage with a gas boiler

Take a typical set: a heating boiler and its circulation pump, a fridge, internet, lights in several rooms and phones charging. On average this is a 250–300 W load. One station lasts 11–14 hours, that is a night outage with a reserve. With an extra battery such a set is powered for roughly a day.

Water: borehole and pumping station

A 1–1.2 kW submersible pump draws several times its rating at the moment of start, and this is where the 8000 W peak power is needed. It works in short cycles, so without watering it uses roughly up to 1 kWh a day. If the pump is old or has no soft start, test its start from the station in advance while the mains is on.

Laundry, boiler, kitchen

A washing machine uses roughly 0.5–1 kWh per cycle at 40 °C, mostly while heating water. A 2 kW boiler takes 2 kWh in an hour of heating, that is more than half the reserve of one station, so it makes sense to switch it on when the station is being charged from the sun or a generator. A two-ring induction hob or an oven up to 3.5 kW fits within the rating, but noticeably shortens run time.

Air conditioner and heating

A household inverter air conditioner in operation usually consumes 0.7–1 kW, so one station runs it for 3.5–5 hours. A 2 kW electric heater will run for about 1.7 hours. For heating a battery is uneconomical; it is better left for the boiler and pumps.

Workshop and plot

A circular saw, compressor, angle grinder or concrete mixer run from ordinary outlets. For tools with a motor the starting reserve matters, and DELTA Pro 3 has more of it than the DELTA 3 series stations.

How it works

From the mains the station charges with the supplied cable: up to 2900 W at 200–240 V and 12.5 A. On the rear panel there is a charging speed switch, and in the app you can set your own power if the wiring or socket is not rated for such a current.

There are two solar inputs. The high-voltage one (30–150 V, 15 A) accepts up to 1600 W, the low-voltage one (11–60 V, 20 A) up to 1000 W, 2600 W together. According to EcoFlow, with both inputs fully loaded the station reaches 80% in about 1.5 hours, and the real speed depends on weather, panel angle and season.

A generator connects by cable to the AC input. The EcoFlow Smart Generator (Dual Fuel) can also be connected to the extra battery port through an adapter, and then the station starts and stops the generator by itself according to the settings in the app.

From a car, DELTA Pro 3 charges through a 12 V cigarette lighter (up to 8 A) or from a 48 V system (up to 20 A), and with an 800 W EcoFlow Alternator Charger from the car alternator while driving. Another source is electric vehicle chargers: through a separate EV X-Stream adapter the station draws up to 4000 W from them.

In the EcoFlow app over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth you can see the charge and the input and output power, and set charge and discharge limits and a charging schedule. Through the CAN port the station exchanges data with other EcoFlow devices.

How to integrate DELTA Pro 3 into a house’s electrical system

The simplest option is extension leads from the station’s outlets to the boiler, fridge and router. For a house, connection to its own wiring is more convenient, and for DELTA Pro 3 EcoFlow offers several official schemes.

Manual Transfer Switch

A manual backup transfer switch is installed next to the electrical panel and connects the station to selected lines of the house. During an outage you switch the power from the mains to the battery, and outlets and lights on the connected lines work as usual. EcoFlow requires installation by a certified electrician, and the station must not be connected to the wiring without such a switch: it is what isolates the battery from the external grid.

PowerStream: a balcony solar system

With an 800 W EcoFlow PowerStream microinverter in the version with a battery cable, DELTA Pro 3 becomes a storage unit for a small solar system. During the day the panels charge the battery, and in the evening and at night the microinverter feeds energy into the home network. The rules for connecting such systems differ between countries, so EcoFlow advises consulting an electrician in advance.

PowerInsight, WAVE 2 and a generator

The EcoFlow PowerInsight Home Energy Manager panel shows in real time how much energy the panels give, how much the station stores and how much the home consumes, and through the Matter protocol smart sockets, thermostats and lamps are added to it. The EcoFlow WAVE 2 portable air conditioner and the Smart Generator are also compatible with the station, and a generator connects through a separate adapter to the extra battery port.

One placement nuance: only the battery pack inside is sealed, and the station case has IP20 protection. So it should be placed in a ventilated room or under a canopy, away from rain and dust.

EcoFlow DELTA Pro is the previous generation of EcoFlow’s home station. Pro 3 has 496 Wh more capacity, draws 1000 W more from the sun thanks to the second input, runs quieter (30 dB versus 45 dB at 2 kW) and switches to battery roughly three times faster. The lifespan is also higher: 4000 cycles to 80% versus 3500. DELTA Pro is 6.5 kg lighter, and from a socket both draw up to 2900 W.

For DELTA Pro owners it is important that the two main units do not work together, but DELTA Pro extra batteries fit Pro 3. There is no compatibility the other way round: a Pro 3 battery does not connect to the old station.

EcoFlow DELTA 3 Max Plus has half the capacity and is more than half the weight. It is designed for an apartment or house with moderate loads and also supports extra batteries. If, however, you need to power a pump, boiler and kitchen at the same time or install a switch in the panel, DELTA Pro 3 gives a bigger power reserve.

When it comes to growing the capacity, the DELTA Pro 3 Smart Extra Battery adds another 4096 Wh and connects to the station with a flat cable through the rear port.

Who DELTA Pro 3 suits and who it does not

It suits you if:

  • in a house a boiler, pumps, fridge and washing machine must work during outages;
  • you plan 1.5–2.5 kW of solar panels and want to store energy during the day;
  • you need a system with a switch in the panel and the option to grow to 12 kWh;
  • you have equipment with a high starting current: a borehole pump, compressor, tools.

Choose another solution if:

  • you only need to power an apartment with a router, lamps and a fridge — a more compact station will cope with that;
  • you will have to move the station often or lift it up stairs: 51.5 kg is noticeable even on wheels;
  • you plan to put it outdoors without a canopy, because the case has only IP20 protection;
  • you expect to heat a house fully with electricity during outages — even 12 kWh is too little for that;
  • you already have a DELTA Pro and want to combine two main units — they are incompatible.

FAQ

How many outlets does the European version of DELTA Pro 3 have?

Five: four 230 V 16 A Schuko and one 16 A CEE industrial socket. In addition there are two 100 W USB-C, two 18 W USB-A and a 378 W 12 V output with DC5521 and Anderson connectors.

Can DELTA Pro 3 be used outdoors?

Only under a canopy or in a ventilated room. The battery pack is IP65 protected, but the station case is IP20, so rain and dust harm it.

Will DELTA Pro batteries fit DELTA Pro 3?

Yes, DELTA Pro extra batteries work with Pro 3 after a firmware update of all devices. The DELTA Pro main unit does not combine with Pro 3, and a DELTA Pro 3 battery does not work with the old DELTA Pro.

How long does the station take to charge from the sun?

In ideal conditions and with both inputs loaded, about 1.5 hours to 80%. In practice panels deliver less than their rating, especially in winter, so allow more time. When enough solar energy arrives at the input, a switched-off station can switch on by itself.

Can DELTA Pro 3 be connected to the electrical panel?

Yes, through a Manual Transfer Switch installed by an electrician. Without a switch that separates the station from the external grid, connecting it to the wiring is dangerous, and the manual forbids it.

Is there earth-leakage protection?

Yes, there is a GFCI circuit inside the station. If you add an external RCD, the corresponding function must be switched on in the app, otherwise it cannot trip correctly.

At what temperature does the station work and charge?

The operating range from the battery is from minus 10 to plus 45 °C, and for charging the lower limit is already 0 °C. The optimal range is 20–30 °C, and when it is below -10 °C outside, the station should be taken from an unheated garage into the house.

The bottom line
