Description
The DELTA 2 Max Smart Extra Battery is an external 2048 Wh LiFePO4 battery that connects to an EcoFlow station with a cable and increases its energy reserve. Its main pair is the EcoFlow DELTA 2 Max, to which two such batteries can be added. EcoFlow’s official compatibility table also names the DELTA 2, DELTA 3, DELTA 3 Plus, DELTA 3 1500 and DELTA Max 2000, and on the DELTA 3 Max Plus page the manufacturer also lists this battery as compatible. The battery has no outlets or USB, so it does not work separately from the station. In return, during power outages a station with it keeps a fridge, boiler and connectivity running noticeably longer, and when the mains is available both units charge together from one socket.
What changes when you add a battery to the station
Another 2048 Wh without replacing the station
DELTA 2 Max has its own 2048 Wh, so one battery doubles the reserve to 4096 Wh, and two bring the system to 6144 Wh. You do not have to sell or replace the station you already use, and the second battery can be bought later.
LiFePO4 rated for 3000 cycles
The cells are lithium iron phosphate. EcoFlow states 3000 cycles to a level above 80% of the original capacity and estimates this at about 10 years of daily use.
Its own display and power button
On the front panel of the battery there is an LCD screen: charge percentage, remaining run or charge time, input and output power, warnings about overheating, overcooling or overload. That is, the state of the second unit is visible at once, without the app.
Several levels of protection
According to the manual, the battery itself monitors overvoltage, overload, overheating, short circuit, too low a temperature, deep discharge and excess current. If something goes wrong, it stops charging or discharging and shows the corresponding icon.
19 kg and a more compact case
The battery measures 464 × 235 × 283 mm and weighs about 19 kg. It is slightly smaller and lighter than the DELTA 2 Max itself, so it usually finds a place next to the station in a hallway, a pantry or under a desk.

Two batteries at once are accepted only by the DELTA 2 Max: its rear panel has two expansion ports. DELTA 2, DELTA 3 and DELTA 3 1500 have one port, so one battery connects to them. The battery is also compatible with the DELTA Max 2000, which is not in our catalogue.
It does not fit DELTA 3 Max and DELTA 3 Classic, because they have no extra battery port, nor DELTA Pro and DELTA Pro 3: in EcoFlow’s table other batteries are listed for them.

How much longer the equipment will run
The station’s inverter takes part of the energy, so of the battery’s 2048 Wh about 1740 Wh reaches the 230 V outlets. It is this figure we divide by the device consumption. The figures below are approximate: they are affected by the appliance model, cold or heat in the room and the compressor’s cycles.
- a household fridge (1 to 1.5 kWh a day): an additional 28–42 hours;
- a gas boiler together with a heating pump (80–150 W): plus 11–21 hours;
- remote work — a laptop, screen and Wi-Fi (about 120 W): plus 14 hours;
- a router with an optical terminal (15–25 W): plus 70–115 hours.
For a DELTA 2 Max with two batteries EcoFlow gives this example: a 120 W fridge runs for up to 42 hours from 6 kWh. For a private house this means a boiler, fridge and router together (about 200 W) can be kept running for more than a day without the mains and without a generator.
How to connect and use it
Before connecting, switch off both the station and the battery. After connecting the cable the extra battery icon should appear on the screens of both devices, and only then can the system be charged or loaded. The battery must not be connected or disconnected during charging or operation, and the metal connector contacts should not be touched with your hands.
The battery switches on with a short press of the button and off with a long one. With no action the screen goes dark after 5 minutes, and if there is no load at all for 2 hours the battery switches off by itself. This waiting time can be changed in the EcoFlow app.
The battery has no separate mains or solar input: it charges through the station from the sources the station supports. The battery port accepts up to 2000 W and delivers up to 3200 W. In addition, the manual allows charging from an EcoFlow Smart Generator.
For storage the manufacturer advises a temperature of 20–30 °C. If the battery is not used for a long time, discharge it to zero once every three months, charge it fully and leave it at about 60%.
A battery or a more powerful station
An extra battery increases only the energy reserve, and the power at the outlets remains that of the station. DELTA 2 Max delivers 2400 W, DELTA 2, DELTA 3 and DELTA 3 1500 1800 W each, DELTA 3 Max Plus 3000 W. A boiler or electric cooker the station could not run will not run with the battery either.
If you already have a station and its power is enough, the battery is the simplest path to 4–6 kWh. If you do not have a station yet and need both 4 kWh and 4000 W at the outlets for kitchen appliances and pumps, it is smarter to look right away at the EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3: it has 4096 Wh of its own capacity and expands to 12 kWh with its own batteries.
Who it suits and who it does not
The battery is appropriate if:
- you have a DELTA 2 Max and want to get through a night outage without economy or reach 6 kWh;
- you have a DELTA 2, DELTA 3 or DELTA 3 1500 and want to increase their reserve 2–3 times;
- you need a system for a house with a boiler and there is no point in buying a new station.
Better choose another if:
- the station has to be moved often: together with the battery that is already over 40 kg for DELTA 2 Max;
- what you lack is not capacity but power for powerful appliances;
- you have a DELTA 3 Max, DELTA 3 Classic, DELTA Pro or DELTA Pro 3 — this battery does not connect to them.
FAQ
How many of these batteries can a DELTA 2 or DELTA 3 take?
One, because these stations have only one expansion port. Only DELTA 2 Max supports two batteries at once, and then the total capacity is 6144 Wh.
Can the battery be used without a station?
No. The battery has no outlets or USB, so equipment cannot be connected to it. The station takes energy from it and delivers it through its own ports.
Can the battery be charged in frost?
No, charging is possible at a temperature from 0 to 45 °C and discharging from -10 to 45 °C. If the battery has overcooled, it resumes charging by itself once it warms above 5 °C.
Why does the battery have its own screen?
To see its state separately from the station: charge in percent, remaining time, input and output power and error icons. During charging the ring around the percentage rotates.
Can the battery be taken on a plane?
No, the manufacturer directly states that it must not be transported by air. In a car or motorhome it must be securely fastened: the manual requires protecting the battery from impacts, drops and strong vibration.
Will the battery speed up charging from solar panels?
No, the speed is determined by the station’s solar input. On the contrary, because of the larger energy reserve it takes longer to fully charge the system, so you should have enough panels for the sun.
